Störtebeker Keller-beer

Makkarataikinan vääntämisen lomassa on hyvä nauttia yksi kylmä olut. Jääkaapista sopivasti jäähtyneenä löytyi tämä Störtebeker Keller-bier. Se on pilsner-oluiden tapaan valmistettu suodattamaton luomu pohjahiivaolut.  Kaunis oljenkeltainen väri tulee valikoiduista vaaleista maltaista. Select- traditional- ja Opal-humalat antavat terävähkön tuoksun jossa hiukan aprikoosia ja kukkamaisuutta. Maku on täyteläinen ja hiukan kirpeä mutta samalla jollain erikoisella tavalla pehmeä. Ei kovin voimakkaasti vaahtoava. Erittäin suositeltava ruokajuomaksi tai vain nautiskeluun. Jääkaapista ensin vähän tasaantumaan, ei siis ihan jääkaappikylmänä.

While making the meat mass for home made sausages it is good time for a good beer. In refrigerator there was a bottle of Störtenbeker Keller-bier. It's non-filtered pilsner type beers brewed using bottom fermenting yeasts. The straw-like yellow colour is given from the selected light malts and select- traditional- and opal type of  hops are making the sharp aroma including some apricot and flowers.
The taste is a little bit sparkly but also same time kind of soft. Excellent drink with food but also just to enjoy. Do not serve too cold. From fridge it's goot to give a little time..

Polestar pilsner

Laiska oon taas ollut ja nuuka ja säästellyt noita juomia kaapissa. Lukukertoja on kertynytkin ihan mukavasti.
Tänään aloinkin grillaamaan hornet wingsejä ja kaapista löytyi grillauskaveriksi Left Hand brewing companyn Polestar Pilsner. Tälläkertaa se nautitaankin grillailuun sopivasti suoraan pullosta.
Ensivaikutelma oli mukava. Avauduttua pulloon muodostui tiukahko vaahto. Tuoksu on raikas ja hiukan kirpeä mutta hyvin hento. Väri vaalean keltainen. Pullon läpi jopa näyttäisi hiukan samealta.
Maku on pirteä. Runsaan maltainen ja voimakas humalan kitkeryys tekee mausta rapsakan ja sitenmyös sopivan seuralaisen noille hot wigseille.

I need to confess my lazyness, been just hiding those quality beers. Meanwhile readin gcounter has been increased quite a lot, nice.
Today i decided to barbeque some chicken hot wings. From cooler I found bottle of Polestar pilsner by left hand brewing company. This time I will enjoy it directly from bottle, like best with barbeque.
After opening, it created thick white foam. Colour is light yellow. Smell is very mild. Taste is big having a lot of malt and hop is giving great bitter aroma. Nice drink with those Hot Wings.

Lapinkulta tuisku

Lapinkulta Tuisku on täyteläinen pintahiivalla valmistettu luomuolut. Valmistukseen on käytetty erityisesti tätä olutta varten tarkoitettua tummempaa luomumallasta, Luomuhumalia (Perle ja Spalter Select) sekä kotimaista luomuyrttiä, Siankärsämöä.
Väriltään tämä talviolut on vahvan kuparin ruskea, Voimakas vaahdonmuodostus on ainakin omaan mieleeni jopa liiallinen. Vaahto on tiivis vaaleanruskea ja kestävä,
Maku on runsas ja yrttinen, mukana hiukan sitruksen kuorta. melko kitkerä jälkimaku.
Ei ihan olut minun mieleeni


Lapinkulta Tuisku is rich organic beer breved using top-fermentic yeast. It is a winter season beer. Malt used is specially produced for this beer is darker made from organic barley. Also hops are organic but they are not availalble in Finland so they are imported (Perle and spalter select).
Also a finnish herb milfoil is used.
Colour of this beer is strongly copper brown. Foam building is very strong, even too strong. The foam is thick and enduring, difficult to pour into the glass.
The taste is full and rich, having herbs and some citrus. Bitter after taste is something I don´t like.
Not my favourites.

St Peter´s Cream Stout

Jälleen kerran on mennyt liian kauan edellisestä oluesta. Jällen kerran lupaan ryhdistäytyä. Kesän lopusta on takana pyöräilyä toista tuhatta kilometriä ja painonpudotusta lähes 8 kg ja toki raju kunnon kohotus. Seuraava olut on jo tovin odottanut jääkaapissa nauttimista.
St Peter´s Cream Stout on hyvin tumma, lähes musta olut. Se on valmistettu viidestä mallaslajista ja mausteena kaksi erityistä humalalajia: Fuggler ja Challenger.
Lasiin kaadettaessa muodostuu pintaan kaunis, tiivis vaaleanruskea vaahtokruunu.
St Peter´s Stout on runsasmakuinen pehmeä tumma olut, Hiukan savumaista makua mukana mutta jälkimakuna hiukan katkeranmakea, vähän suklainen aromi. Erinomainen Iltaolut.

Again, too much time has gone since the last beer. And again I promise to make better.. From the end of the summer I´ ve been concerned to cyckling over 1000km, made some weight loss (8kg).
This beer has been waiting in fridge for some time already.
St Peter´s Crean Stout is a very dark, almost black beer. It has been brewed using five special malts and two special hops: Fuggler ja Challenger.
When poured into a glass, this beer creates nice and thik light brown foam crown.
Taste is very rich, little smoky but sill kind of soft. Aftertaste is interestin, bittersweet with some flavour of chocolate. Excellent "social" beer.

Fuller´s Discovery Blonde beer

Fullerin panema olut on pantu käytäen mallastettua ohraa sekä vehnää. Vehnäolut se ei kuitenkaan ole vaan enemmänkin vaalea lager.  Kullankeltainen olut muodostaa keskikokoisen valkean vaahdon joka hissukseen sulaa pitsiksi pinnalle. Tuoksu on miellyttävä sitruunainen ja yrttinen.
Myös maku on miellyttävä hedelmäinen sisältäen vähän yrttejä ehkä hiukan hunajainen. Mukana myös sitruunan kuorta.
Humalat antavat oman leimansa makuun, ensin yrtit ja jälkimauksi miellyttävän pyöreä katkero.
Kunnolla jäähdytettynä miellyttävän virkistävä ja helppo juoda. Hyvää, nousee suosikkilistalle

Fuller´s Discovery has been brewed using malted barley and wheat. Still, it´s not a white beer but rather it is blonde lager.  Gold brown beer makes a white, medium foam crown which melts down quite slowly creating some lace on the surface. Scent is pleasant including some citrusand grass and herbs. Also the taste is nice, fruity with citrus, herbs and maybe some honey. The used hops makes the body and also aftertaste which is nice round bitter. refreshing and easy to drink while well chilled. Nice, takes it´s place in my favourite list.

Dixie

New Orleans. ensin yhdistäisi mieluummin Jazzmusiikkiin mutta tulee sieltä näköjään oluttakin.
Dixie Brewing company sijaitsi New Orleansissa mutta tuhoutui 2005 Katrina-myrskyn iskiessä alueelle.
Dixien erikoinen aromi on peräisin sypressipuisista käymissammioista. Nuo sammiot vaan tuhoutuivat panimon  mukana.  Nykyään Dixie valmistetaan briteissä ja käymisen ajaksi siihen lisätään sypressipuun lastuja jotta tuo erikoisaromi saataisiin säilymään. Dixie on tummahkon keltainen olut joka kaadettaessa tekee heikohkon vaahdon. Vaahto sulaa pois silmänräpäyksessä ja jäljelle jää vain pientä helmeilyä oluen pinnassa.
Tuoksu on jännä miedon paahteinen.  Myös maku on miedohko, yrttinen ja siinä tosiaan on selkeä vähän niinkuin katajainen lisämaku, jos Dixie on liian kylmää, sen makuskaala jää kapeaksi. Ei siis ihan jääkaappikylmänä vaan kannattaa antaa hetken tasaantua lasissa.

New Orleans. The 1st thing in my mind is jazz music, but they are also brewing beer. Actually, nowadays Dixie is brewed in Great Britain while the Katrina Hurricane, in 2005, destroyed the brewery.
The special aroma of Dixie comes from the vats where this beer was fermented.those vats were made of Cypress wood. Now they don´t have those cypress vats but they add cypress wood chippings to get this special aroma.

Dixie is a dark yellow beer which makes quite thin foam layer which melts down in seconds. then there is jus ´t some sparkling on the surface. Dixie has very mild roasty scent. The taste is also mild, a little herbal and there really is some aroma from the cypress wood.
When served, Diexie cannot be cold. If it is too cold, the taste variaton keeps too narrow. it´s better to let dixie breeth a little before driking.

Sapporo Premium Lager

Tämän Heinäkuun lopun kesäisen päivän päätteeksi parin grillimakkaran kaveriksi jääkaapista löytyi japanilainen Sapporo Lager. Olut on kuitenkin täällä meillä Lisenssiolutta joka valmistetaan ja pullotetaan etiketin mukaan EU:ssa.
Vähän kullanruskea olut antaa keskikorkean vaahtokerroksen joka hajoaa melko nopeasti jättäen kuitenkin ohuen pitsin pinnalle. Ei kovin vahva mallasaromi mutta pitkähkö, loiva humalan katkero jälkimakuna. Helpohko juoda ja maistui ainakin hyvältä nöiden Juusto-Jalapeno kabanossien kanssa. Kylmänä.
Peittoaa kuitenkin mennentullen perustölkkikeppanat.

As finalizing this nice, warm summerday of late July, I found from fridge a Japanese Sapporo Premium Lager beer.
Here it is still brewed by license, the label tells that in EU.
Slightly Gold Brown beer creates middle high crown of foam which stays for a while and then smelts down and leaves thin lace on the surface. The aroma of the malt is not very strong but the hops gives quite long bitter but fresh aftertaste.  Easy beer to drink and tasted nice with those Cheese-Jalapeno spiced sausages I grilled. Must be cold.
Still Wins our basic canned beers easily.

KEO Premium beer from Cyprus

KEO on Kyprokselta peräisin oleva vaalea lager tyyppinen olut, tai oikeammin Pilsner tyyppinen. Väriltään vaalean keltainen, Muodostaa kaadettaessa hennon mutta runsaan vaahdon joka jää lopuksi pitsikerrokseksi pinnalle. Välimeren alueen oluille tyypillisen miedon makuinen. Kuitenkin raikas ja hyvin kylmänämaistuu kyllä suolaisen savukalan kanssa
Humalasta peräisin oleva aromi on myös pehmeä ja pyöreä, ei liian kitkerä.
Ehkä paras tähän asti maistamistani välimeren alueen oluista.

KEO from Cyprys, is light Lager, or actually Pils type of beer. Light yellow coloured beer, while pouring, creates light, bright white but good volume of foam which finally stays as a lace layer on the top. As typical for the mediterranean district beers, KEO is also very mild tasting. Still as served well chilled, it gives fresh feeling and tastes very good with salty, smoked fish.
The bitternes from the hops is also smooth and round, not too bitter and also not too sparkly. Maybe the best beer from mediterranean, I have tasted.

Brooklyn American Ale

En taas selittele tekosyitä etten olisi muka ehtinyt oluita maistelemaan. Tänään oli kuitenkin taas hyvä tekosyy maistella kun laitoin muutaman iltapalamuikun savustuslaatikkoon kypsymään.

Brooklyn American Ale on kuten nimensä paljastaa, Aito amerikkalainen ale tyyppinen olut. Alkuperäismaassa myydään käsittääkseni nimellä Summer Ale, Ainakin etiketti on saman lainen ja käytetyt mallas ja humalatyypit ovat samat.

Lasiin soljuu mukava kullanruskea miellyttävän tuoksuinen olut muodostaen jämäkän mutta ei kovin korkean vaahtokerroksen. Vaahto kuitenkin sulaa pian pois jääden lähinnä lasin reunoille valkeaksi renkaaksi.

Maku on täyteläinen ja pehmeä. Kullanruskea väri ja pehmeä hieman paahteinen maku tulee käytetystä maltaasta joka ymmärtääkseni olisi brittialkuperää. Cascade ja Amarillo humalat antavat pirteän makuvivahteen kaupanpäälle.
Ei liian voimakas mutta silti täyteläisen makuinen olut sopii hienosti ruokaolueksi ja miksei näin ruoan valmistumisen osotteluunkin, ikäänkuin aperitiiviksi.


Again, I do explain  excuses that I  haven´t had time for beer tasting. Today, however, was once again a great excuse have some beer while  i put a few whitefish into the smoker.

Brooklyn American Ale is as its name reveals, Genuine American ale-type beers. In America, the Country of Origin it is sold with brand Summer Ale, at least the label is the same type used and the types of malt and hops are the same.

While  pouring to Glass that nice golden brown pleasant-smelling beer, it is forming a sturdy but not very high layer of foam. However, as soon as the foam will melt away quite quickly it will leave a white ring around the edge of the glass.

The taste is full-bodied and smooth. Golden brown colour and slightly soft toasty flavor come from the malt which is used for brewing this beer. I understood the used barley malt is British origin. Cascade and Amarillo hops gives the fresh and slightly bitter taste  .
Not too strong but still mellow beer fits nicely with meal or while waiting the meal to be ready, as an appetizer.

Stadin ESB, Stadin Panimo

Asenne ratkaisee ja tässä on asennetta.

Stadin ESB (extra special bitter) on tosiaan olut josta löytyy sitä vanhan stadin asennetta: itsevarma ja voimakastahtoinen.  Konstailemattomassa pullossa on simppeli mutta toimiva peruspaperille painettu etiketti jossa on vain oleellinen. 

Pullosta valuu lasiin kuparin ruskea hieman samea vahvan tuoksuinen olut joka muodostaa runsaasti kellertävää vaahtoa, kannattaa kaataa varovasti. Maku on pureva ja voimakas englantilaiset käpyhumalat antaa voimakkaan katkeran maun mutta ei silti peitä hienosti valmisteltua mallasta.

Tyypiltään Stadi ESB on "hopback humaloitu ja pullokäyvä täysmallaspintahiivaolut"

Erinomainen valinta helteiseen kesäiltaan.

Attitude is it, and this ahs the artitude.

1st some explanation: Stadi is nick name for the capital of Finland, Helsinki. The word "stadi" is it's local special dialect.

Stadi ESB (extra special bitter) is really a beer that has a lot of attitude of the real "stadi" people: confidence and strong-willed. The  simple bottle has simple but effectivev label which is printed on basic paper and has only the essential things printed, nothing more.

The copper brown beer flows out from the bottle with strong scent and creates a lot of cream coloured foam (pour carefully). The foam is not very strong but stays long time as a thin layer on the surface. 

The taste is biting and strong. The brittish hops makes it taste quite bitter but also fresh. But the bittterness is not hiding the rich flavour of the full bodied malt. "Hopback-aromatic hopped, in the bottle fermenting full malt top yeast beer"

Excellent choice to drink in the evening of the very hot summer day

Ginger Pale Ale

Vielä on monta olutta kaapissa maistelematta. Tekosyitä on taas työnteko ja reissaaminen. Kroatiassakin tuli pistäydyttyä. Toki sielläkin tuli paikallisia oluita maisteltua mutta ei lomailulta kerinnyt blogiin kirjoittelemaan.  eikä ne oikeastaan tähän sarjaan kuulukaan.
Tänään kuitenkin muistin ajoissa laittaa oluet jäähtymään. Valintana oli Little Valley Breweryn luomuolut, Ginger Pale Ale.
Reilu, puolenlitran vetoinen pullo pitää sisällään hiukan samean, punertavan oranssin oluen. Ensituoksu on hiukan simamainen, kirpeä. Lasiin kaadettuna muodostaa vahvan vaahdon joka kuitenkin sulaa pois hiljalleen ja jättää ohuen vaahtokerroksen pintaan.
Ensi siemaus puraisee. Hento inkivääri (Ginger) pistää esiin ja heti jälkeen tulee sitrus. Maltaan ja humalan aromit peittyy tähän mutta humalan kitkeryys löytyy kyllä ja jälkimaku on hiukan kuivahko.
Kokonaisuutena hiukan erikoisuus olueksi mutta ei huono. Ehkä vahvasti maustettujen ruokien kaveriksi. Ei janojuomaksi.


Quite many beers waiting for tasting. Excuses there are again working and travelling. Even visited in croatia. Of course, the local beers was tasted but they don´t belong to this blog and while being busy having holiday, didn´t have time to write a blog.
Today, I finally remembered to put some beers to fridge and the selection was Ginger Pale Ale from Little Valley Brewery.
A half liter bottle includes opaque, orange red beer. The fragrance has hint of ginger and citrus.
The first sip bites. Clear aroma of ginger and the citrus follows it again, The malt is weak, also the hop, but it still gives the bitter after taste which is even dry. .
A special type of beer but not bad. maybe suitable with strong spicy food. Not a beer  for thirst.

Adnams Ghost Ship

"Ghostly Pale Ale "

Eka olut ulkosalla pihapöydän ääressä. Jos se tästä taas lähtisi kirjoittelu kun terassikelit on kunnossa.

Adnams Ghost Ship on hiukan samea kuparin punainen pale ale tyypin olut. Pullon avauksesta tuli heti ensituoksuna sitrus, sitten kevyt mallas. Lasiin kaadetaessa tosiaan vähän samea, kuparin värinen aika nätti olut. Pinnalle tiukka, melko nopeasti reunapitsiksi haihtuva vaahto. Maku on miellyttävän raikas. Ensimmäisenä tulee taas se sitrus, ehkä jopa greippimäinen vivahde. Sitten mallas ja sitrushedelmä kisailevat vuorosta humalan kanssa. Sitrus taitaa kuitenkin olla näistä voimakkain ja se saakin selityksensä tuotteen nettisivulta. Valmitukseen käytetään citra-humalaa muiden valikoitujen lajikkeiden lisäksi juurikin vahvan citrusaromin aikaansaamiseksi. Oikein mukava tällainen kesäillan nautiskeluolut.

Adnams Ghost Ship is a little fuzzy coper redale ale type beer. Just after opening the bottle i noticed clear scent of citrus, then the light malt. While pouring to glass, it creates thick light brown foam which lays down fast formin some nice lace on the edges of the glass. The taste is nice fresh. The 1st taste is strong citrus or even grapefruit, then hop and malt and citrus is taking their places. Citrus may be the strongest one. The explanation can be found from the product's web site: for brewing they use citra hop with some selected american hops blending due to get the fresh strong citrus aroma. I like this is very nice beer to drink and enjoy the warm summer evening in the garden.

Ambar Especial Cerveza, Finally beer.

Päiviä, jopa viikkoja on vierähtänyt. Ei toki mikään puolustus mutta liikaa ryntäilyä joka suuntaan ettei edes oluelle ehdi pysähtyä. No eihän siinä muuten mutta kun autoillakin on pitänyt niin se toki hiukan rajoittaa.
Tänään kaapissa oli onneksi valmiiksi kylmenemässä Pienen pieni pullo. Espanjalainen Ambar Especial Cerveza on tosiaan pullotettu 25cl pulloon. Pullon auettua sisältä löytyy vahvahko humalan leimaama  tuoksu.
Lasiin kaadettaessa esiin tulee kirkkaan keltainen melko niukasti vaahtoava lager. Maku on myös vahvasti humala-arominen ja mallas jää vähemmälle. Lempeä, helposti juotava olut joka jättää purevan jälkimaun kielen päälle. Toimii kylmänä janonuomana tai vaikkapa saunan päälle pikku iltapalan painikkeeksi tai tietysti tapaksien kanssa. Ei huono.

Too many days..even weeks has gone. Not any defence but too much rushing around with work and some other hobbies that has not had even time for a beer. It´s not a problem but always needed to drive, so the beer is not good choice.
Today I found from fridge a tiny bottle of beer. Yes, the spanish lager, Ambar Especial Cerveza is bottled in a qute 25cl bottle. After I opened the cap, I found a stron hop aroma flooding out. When poring to glass, it will be filled up with bright yellow lager creating thin layer of white foam. The taste is also strong hopped but the malt is hiding somwhere. This is gentle tasting, easy-to-drink beer which gives a biting after taste on the tongue. Works well as very cold drink for thirst or with some small supper, or - of course - with tapas. Not bad.

Mythos from Greek

Tänään lupasin maistella välimeren makuja. Olut on kotoisin Kreikasta ja nimi on Mythos. Etiketissä mainitaan että kyseessä on "Hellenic lager beer".
Tähän kreikkalaiseen olueeseen tutustuin jo muutamia vuosia takaperin Ruotsissa työmatkalla Borlangessa.
Kollegojen kanssa kävimme iltaisin aina eri paikoissa syömässä. Eräänä iltana löysimme Kreikkalaisen ravintolan, Ehdotin että menisimme sinne ja kerroin että osaavat ainakin grillata lihan. Tietysti alkupalaksi tilasimme kreikkalaisen leivän Tsatsikin kera. Tsatsikia tulikin sitten, jokaiselle suuri lautasellinen. Eihä siinä muuta mutta kun sitä tsatsikia oli myös siinä ruoka-annoksen mukanakin suunnilleen samanlainen määrä.
Tottakai ruokajuomaksi valitsimme kreikkalaisen oluen joka olikin nimeltään Mythos. Silloin tuosta oluesta jäi ehkä vähän valju kuva. Ehkä sitten tuo suuri tsatsikimäärä laimensi makunautintoa oluen osalta.
Nyt tänään avattuna ensisiemaisulla oli ihan kelpo olutta. Aikaisempiin maisteluihin verraten ei tämä mikään makujen sinfonia ole mutta sellaista kevyttä, hiukan kirpeän hapokasta kevyttä ruokaolutta. Tosin on juotava melko nopeasti sillä vaahto on melko ohut ja häviää nopeasti eikä siis lasiin jää olutta suojelevaa kantta. Juoma siis lasissa seistessään laimenee nopeasti. Aluksi hapokkuus voittaa miedon humalan mutta hetkenpäästä, hapokkuuden laimennuttua humalan pehmeä aromi pääsee paremmin esille ja jättää voimakkaamman jälkimaun. Maltaan maku jää kokematta tästä. Väriltään Mythos on täyteläisen oljenkeltainen. Ohut valkoinen vaahto häviää melko pian jättäen reunoille vaahtorenkaan.  Tuoksu on aika mitäänsanomaton. Tämä maistiainen vahvistaa kyllä tuota aikaisempaa mielikuvaani tästä oluesta.


Today I promised to taste somethiing from mediterranean area. This beer, I just opened comes from Greek and it´s brand is Mythos. On the label you can find words: "Hellenic lager beer".
Mythos came familiar to me some years ago in Sweden, Borlange. I was there participating a trainig and with my colleagues, we used to go to different restaurants in the evenings to have dinner. On evening we selected the Greece restaursnt, because I told that they should know how to grill the meat. For starter  we took Greek bread with tzatziki. We all got a big dish full of this tzatziki. Well it´s not so bad, but with the main dish we got almost the same pile of tzatziki :D. For the drink we selected, of course, Greek beer and it was this same Mythos. This time I got an image in myu mind about a mild, loose beer with no character.
Maybe it was the huge amount of tzatziki affecting the taste of the beer.
Now, This Mythos opened today, was quite good beer with the 1st sip. Verifying with the earlier beers in this blog, mythos isn´t any "symphony of taste and aroma", but it is kind of light beer to dring with food.
It has to be drunk quite fast because it will flatten fast. the foam is thin and melts down quickly. So the beer has no protecting lid on it while resting in the glass. At first the sparkling tartness wins the mild hop aroma but when the sparkles dissappear and beer flattens, the hop is coming out and gives nice after taste. the Malt aroma was missing in this beautifully straw-yellow coloured lager. White, thin foam melts away quickly but leaves a thin foam ring around the glass.The Scent is very mild or even "Nothing".
Ok. I didn´t got any better opininion of this beer at this time.

Something special

Onpas vierähtänyt monta päivää edellisestä oluesta, älkää huolestuko, kyllä tämä tästä.
Niinkuin tavallista, työ haittaa hyvää harrtusta, turhan pitkiä päiviä taas puurrettu.

Vaan tällä viikolla sain jotain erikoista ja täällä vähän harvinaistakin. Viimeinen postaus oli lahjapaketin ulkopuolelta, ihan itse ostamaani Innis & Gunn Original olutta. Tuuohon merkkiin tutustuin legendaarisessa Club Scooter pubissa Haapajärvellä ja ihastuin heti.
Valitettavasti Alkossa ei ole tuolta panimolta muuta kun tuo Original valikoimassaan.
Kuitenkin onni potkaisi ja sain muutaman pullon Innis & Gunn Rum Finish olutta. Tätä siis on Alkon valikoimassa ollut aikaisemmin mutta jättivät sen pois. Tätä en ole vielä maistanut mutta uteliaisuus on kova. On kuitenkin sen verran harvinaista että täytyy harkiten valita se hetki kun tällaisen korkkaa.
Innis & Gunn panimon oluissahan on erikoista se että näille loppukypsytys, se viimeinen silaus tehdään erilaisissa tynnyreissä. Tämä Rum Finish siis nimensä mukaan asuu entisissä rommitynnyreissä ja tämä antaa oluelle omaleimaisen luonteen makuun ja tuoksuun.
Sain samalla erään toisen oluen, ikäänkuin näytteenä mutta siitä sitten nimeä ja tarinaa toisella kerralla.
Tämän viikonlopun olutmaisteluun on sitten luvassa oluita välimeren alueilta, Kreikasta ja Espanjasta..

Some days has gone since the last beer and article. But don´t worry, I´ll make better soon..
As usual, the work disturbs good hobbies, have been working too long days this week.

But back to the busines. In this week I got something special and rare. Also my last article here was outside from the gift box,  The beer which I bought myself from Alko, the Innis & Gunn Original. That brand I became familiar in the legendary pub Club Scooter in Haapajärvi and fell in love immediately.
Unfortunately the Alko has only Innis & Gunn Original in their range of scotch beer granting that I&G have many other styles of interestin beer.
Anyway, I got my lucky day, I got some bottles of Innis & Gunn Rum Finish. Alko had this in theri range but decided to abandon it. . I haven´t tasted it yet. it is now so rare here that I need to think carefully and find the correct occassion to open one bottle.
Innis & Gunn beers are special because the last maturing is done in different kind of ouak barrels. As the name tells this Rum Finsh has been living in old rum barrels made of oak tree. That gives the charasteristic taste and scent to Innis & Gunn beers.
At the same time I got one other beer, but I´ll tell the name and taste later.
During this weekend there are coming two beer from mediterranian area, from Spain and Greece.

Innis & Gunn Original

Tämä olut tällä kertaa tulee lahjapaketin ulkopuolelta mutta on niin hieno että ansaitsee tulla mainituksi. Sitäpaitsi lupasin että kun 1000 kävijän määrä menee rikki, teen seuraavan artikkelin juuri tästä oluesta.
Innis & Gunn Original on hieman erikoinen olut. Sen loppukypsytys tapahtuu 77 päivän ajan tammitynnyreissä ja tämä vaihe antaa tälle oluelle erityisen makuvivahteen.
Syvän hunajaisen keltainen, vähän punertavakin väri ja kunnollinen pehmeä tuoksu lupaavat jo jotain erityistä. Pehmeä, tiivis vaahto viipyy hyvän hetken pinnalla hajoten kivaksi pitsireunukseksi. Loistava malkuyhdistelmä toffen ja vaniljan vivahteita yhdessä tammisen maltaan aromin kanssa antaa täyteläisen pyöreän, pehmeän makuelämyksen jota hieno hedelmäinen humala täydentää lostavasti. Tämä on herkullinen olut.

This time my beer comes outside of the gift box but it is so fine and special that it earns to be mentioned. And I promised to make the next article about this beer when the limit of 1000 visitors is broken.
Innis & Gunn Original i a little special beer. It´s final maturing  is done during 77 days in special oak barrels, which makes the special, significant character for this beer.
Deep honey and copper colour and and proper fullbodied malt scent gives nice promises.
Thik but soft foam crown stays for a while on the top and then smelts down making nice lace on the edges. Exiting combination of aromas of toffee, vanilla and oak flavored malt gives mellow and round experiense highlighted with fruity hop aroma. this beer is delicious.

Neuschwansteiner Dark Lager

 

Tämä pullo on mielenkiintoinen sekoitus kieliä. Etuetiketissä nimi on hyvin saksalainen mutta sitten alareunassa taas selkeällä englannilla "Dark Lager" takaetiketti taas on pääosin suomeksi mutta sitten keskellä lukee hupaisasti "Das Echte tumma lager" kun sen ennemminkin pitäisi olla kokonaan suomeksi:"Aito tumma lager" tai saksaksi:"Das echte dunkel lagerbier".
Mukavan näköinen pullo, kaunis linna-aiheinen etiketti ja suljettava patenttikorkki. Sisältä paljastuu ensin pehmeä maltainen ja humalainen tuoksu. Varovasti kaadettaessa ei vaahtoa juuri lainkaan mutta jos kaataa reilummin lasiin, pinnalle muodostuu tiivis reilunkokoinen vaahtokruunu joka hitaasti hajoaa jättäen pintaan ja reunoille kauniin, vähän ruskehtavan pitsikoristelun.
Olut itse on kauniisti syvän kuparin punainen. maku on miellyttävän pehmeä, täyteläisen maltainen ja paahteinen, ehkä jopa vähän hedelmäinen tai rukiinen. Tuore.
Lagerin tapaan tämänkin hyvä tarjoilulämpötila on siinä 10 astetta (celcius) ehkä näin tummalle sopii pari astetta lämpimämpikin jolloin tuo tumman aromin paremmin esille.
Tämä tumma Lager pääsi myös ensimmäisenä esittelemään Lager-lasini jotka ostin Alkosta samaan aikaan kuin nuo Ale-lasitkin.

This bottle is interestin mix of the languages. In the front label, ther stands the name the in clear german language. And then the rest of  the laber tells in clear english that it is dark lager.
on the label back side, it´s mostly in finnish but then in the middle of the label:"Das echte tumma lager". Better could be totally in finnish:" Aito tumma lager" tai sitten kokonaan saksaksi:"Das echte dungel lagerbier".
Beautiful bottle has beautiful label and plug which can be closed. From inside of the bottle, there flies soft, fullmalted scent with some hop. When pouring to the glass, it creates tight and big foam crown which smells down quite fast, decorating the glass edges and the surface with nice light brown lace.
The beer itself is dark copper brown coloured. The taste is pleasant full bodied soft malt, little roasty and has some caramell and rye. Fresh.
Like Lagers ususally this is also good to serve around 10 degrees (celsius) temperature, Maybe little warmer, so it  gives softly the dark aroma out..
This dark lager also introduces the 1st time my new Lager glasses which I bought from Alko at the same time than the Ale-glasses in the previous post.

Bishop´s Finger Ale

 

Bishop´s Finger on Ale-tyyppinen olut. Mitä on sitten Ale. Opiskeluksi taas meni.
Ale on pintahiivaolut jonka pääkäyminen tapahtuu melko korkeassa, n. 20 asteen lämpötilassa. Pääkäyminen valmistuu yleensä näillä tyypeillä melko nopeasti, jopa 4 vikossa jonka jälkeen, varsinkin vahvoja Aleja kypsytetään (jälkikäyminen) kylmässä. Pääkäymisen päättyessä Hiivat kerääntyvät oluen pintaan. Lämpimässä Ale-oluen hiivat aineenvaihdunnassaan muodostavat hedelmäestereitä joista alelle tyypillinen hedelmäinen tuoksu tulee. Alen paras tarjoilulämpötila on n. 10-14 celsiusastetta.

Bishop´s finger on väriltään tummahkon kuparin punainen. Lasiin kaadettaessa muodostaa hyvän tiiviin valkean vaahtokruun. Tuoksu on millyttävän peheä. Maku on monisuuntainen. Alku onpehmeän maltainen ja samalla vähän kirpakka. Kohta hiipii esiin moimakas kypsä maltaisuus sekä vahva humala joka antaa purevuutta hedelmäisen suuntäyttävän aromin kanssa.

Tässä olikin sopiva olut myös usien lasien kokeiluun. Kunnon olutlasit ovat olleet haussa jo jonkin aikaa, Kaapissa lähinnä pari vehnäolutlasia. Nyt sitten vihdoin löysin ne. Alkon valikoimassa oli sekä lager- että ale-oluille. Lasit ovat erittäin tyylikkäät ja laadukkaat eikä hintakaan ollut paha: n.17€/2 kpl. Näillä on hyvä mennä eteenpäin.

Bishop´s finger is an Ale type beer. What then is Ale. Need to study little more.
Ale is a beer which is fermented in high temperatures as 17-24 degrees in celsius. The yeast will collect on the surface at the end of fermentation and it is producing esters and other things that will make the ale to taste litlle "fruity". The best serving temperature is 10-14degrees (C).

Bishop´s Finger is dark cpper red coloured ale beer. While pouring into the glass it will create a nice, strong foam top. The scent is pleasant soft. It has versatile taste. At first comes soft and full bodied malt and little tart. Soon comes out mellow barley malt with quite strong hop aroma which gives some biting with mouth filling fruity taste.

This was also nice chance for the 1st ale-beer from my new beer glass for Ale. I´ve been searching for the proper beer glasses. I already had one for white beer. Now I found these glasses for Ale and Lager type beer from Alko (Finlands spririt store). They are real stylish and were not to expensive, around €17/2pcs.

St Fruillien Grad Cru

No nyt on putki päällä kun jo toisena päivänä peräkkäin.
Tänään Hotelliasukkin iltapalaksi menee Belgialainen Vahva Ale, St Fruillien Grand Cru. Onneksi en lukenut etikettejä etukäteen, olisi saattanut olla ennakkoluuloja. Olut on nimittäin vahva myös alkoholipitoisuudeltaan, kokonaiset 9,5%
Tuoksu on makean mieto, humalaa. Kaatuu lasiin kuin vahva ale, Muodostaa kunnon valkean  vaahtokruunun joka on pyrkimässä heti ulos lasista ja on pitkäkestoinen. Väri on kauniin oljen keltainen. Tulppaanilasi kuuluisi tällekin olla ehdottomasti. Maku onkin sitten tosi monimuotoinen.
Ensin kirpeää hapokkuutta, perään tulee makeaa maltaisuutta, hiven karamelliä ja yrttisyyttä. Suuri alkoholipitoisuus ei tunnu maussa mutta joka siemauksella lämmittää mukavasti. Erittäin hieno olut on tämä. Voin suositella.

Heh...Now the things are tearing away, Already the second beer in two days in row ;)
today, here living in hotell this week, I have this beer as "supper": Belgian strong Ale, St Fruillien Grand Cru.
Luckily I didn´t read the label before to avoid prejudice: This beer is very strong, 9,5% alcohol.
The scent is nice malted with strong hopping. When poured to the glass it will form good sized white foam crown which stays there long time.
Colour is near the light straw and little fluffy. Taste is really in it´s own class. first a little carbonate, then sweet malt with flavour of caramel and herbs. Big content of alcohol doesn´t ruin the taste, but makes a warming feeling. Very nice beer.

Pilsner Urquell

Jaa että monta päivä jo vierähtänyt edellisestä oluesta. No ei varmaan tarvitse ystäväni olla huolissaan minusta, Oli nimittäin nähnyt painajaista että minusta olisi tullut tämän maistelun ja blogin myötä rapajuoppo. Tätä vauhtia minulla varmaan tätä projektia riittää loppuvuoden ;-)

Pilsner Urquell kehutaan olevan Maailman ensimmäinen Pilsner-olut. Sen "kotimaa" on Tsekki ja sen on kehittänyt Baijerilainen Panimomestari Josef Groll (Wikipedia). Historiakin on jo pitkä, tätä olutta on valmistettu vuodesta 1842 alkaen
Pullon avauduttua sieltä nousee ensin voimakas oluen ja humalan tuoksu joka pian muuttuu miedoksi, vahvan maltaiseksi ja miellyttäväksi. Lasiin muodostuu kaadettaessa melko tiivis mutta aika pian sulava vaahto joka jättää kivat pitsit reunoille. Väri on vahvan kullankeltainen.
Maku on voimakas. Pilsner Urquell on voimakkaasti huomaloitu olut jossa kuitenkin on pehmeä maltainen maku tallessa.
Kuvan lasivalinta ei ollut oikein mieleiseni mutta täällä hotellihuoneessa ei nyt muutakaan ollut.
Olenko sitten hifistelijä mutta mielestäni tällainen olut, hitaasti nautiskellen, ansaitsisi korkean lasin joka kapenee ylöspäin. Esim tällainen Alkon valikoimasta.

Too many days without beer and new post? I think, a friend of mine, doesn´t need to worry about me. She had a nightmare that I was become an alcoholic while tasting these beers and writing this blog.
With this shedule, this project will not end until in the end of t his year ;-)

Pilsner Urquell is told to be the world´s 1st pilsner-beer. The home of this beer is Czech and it is designed by brewmaster Joseph Groll, from Bayern (Wikipedia). The History is also long, it is brewed since 1984.
After opening the bottle, the strong scent of malt and hop floods out, changing soon mild, strongly malted and nice. It creates guite good foam which melts quickly forming nice looking lace around the edges. Colour is beautiful golden yellow. Taste is strong. Pilsner Urquell is strongly hopped still saving the smooth malt taste.
The glass selected for the photo was not the best one. Maybe I´m little picky but I thing this beer, when enjoyed cold and slovly, earns a round lager type glass which is narrowing to upwards, like this.
